Basilic of our Lady of Rocamador
It is located on the exit of Puerta de Castilla – Castille´s Gate- on the way to Irache. It was a compulsory pass for the pilgrims who went to Compostela. Like other Estella’s churches its construction dates from the latest 12th century and the beginning of 13th century. Of this time remains only a semicircular apse, with a straight section covered with barrel vault. The rest of the church is Baroque from 1691. The façade is characteristic of the convents, because of its verticality. In a niche there is a Baroque sculpture of a Virgin with her child in her right arm, which is the protagonist of the hanged man miracle. Inside it is remarkable the sculpture of our lady of Rocamador that dates from the 12th century.
