It is situated in
“Los Fueros” Square. It was built at the end of the 12th century on a vineyard, property of
the King Sancho el Sabio. The façade of the Gospel nave is the only Romanic remain. The main façade had to be reformed after the bell tower’s collapse in 1846. The current neoclassical façade was designed by
Anselmo Vicuña and finished by
Florencio Ansoleaga at the beginning of the 20th century. The church has three naves with a simple cross vault, the central and lateral are barrel vaults with lunette domes. The apse is polygonal, because of the works of the 16th century. Inside, the main altarpiece is remarkable and it was carved by the French artist
Pierres Picart but the sculptures were made by
Fray Juan Beaures. Its style is a transition between the ornamental richness of the Plateresque and the austerity of Romanism.
It is remarkable also the Baroque altarpiece of Santiago by Lucas de Mena , artist from Estella.
La Virgen de las Torchas is a silver-plated sculpture from the transitional period to Gothic. The original one was stolen in 1976.
